PDP fires back at APC over criticism of party’s internal crisis

PDP Responds to APC Criticism on Party’s Status

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned recent remarks made by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Morka had suggested that the PDP is no longer a viable political party, characterizing the opposition’s internal issues as indicative of its decline.

In a statement released on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong described Morka’s comments as “unfortunate” and reflective of what he termed “delusional propaganda.” The PDP countered the claims by asserting that, despite a series of defections reportedly orchestrated by the APC, public support for the ruling party has dwindled due to economic challenges linked to President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“The reality is that Nigerians overwhelmingly continue to reject the ruling party, which is contributing to the nation’s difficulties,” Ememobong stated. He cited issues such as membership registration struggles within the APC and recent unrest at a political event in Owerri as evidence of the ruling party’s waning influence.

Morka’s earlier remarks included the assertion that the PDP lacks a coherent platform for its members due to internal dysfunction, claiming it can no longer function as a political entity. In contrast, Ememobong defended the PDP’s relevance, arguing that the dissatisfaction with the APC’s governance outweighs its internal challenges.

The recent political landscape highlights the PDP’s struggles, marked by a notable decline in its ranks. The party currently retains only two state governors— in Oyo and Bauchi—while the APC controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 states. This shift was exemplified by the recent defection of Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal to the APC, part of a broader trend of defections that has characterized the political climate since 2025.
