Peter Obi’s Defection: How Some Top Nigerian Celebrities Reacted

The defection of former governor and 2023 presidential aspirant, Mr. Peter Obi on Wednesday caused a stir in both the political and entertainment environment after he announced he has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the party’s presidential primary election.

Naija News earlier reported that the former Anambra State Governor tendered his resignation letter at the PDP National Secretariat, through his campaign director, Doyin Okupe.

According to reports, Obi’s exit came as the politician expressed fears he might be humiliated at the convention in Abuja.

Following the development, some top guns in the entertainment industry have weighed in, throwing their weight in support of the former governor’s decision.

Amongst these entertainers, includes, Peter Okoye, Mr Macaroni and Okey Bakassi and others.

Popular Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye also known as Mr. P has vowed to follow the former governor, and 2023 presidential aspirant, Peter Obi anywhere he goes following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Mr. P, he supports his personality, not his political platform. He wrote on Twitter: “Anywhere he goes we move with him!…. No time!”

Nollywood actor, Ugezu Jideofor Ugezu  applauded the 2023 presidential aspirant, Peter Obi following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The actor congratulated Peter Obi  for refusing to participate in money sharing politics, adding that the PDP lost it when they mandated the aspirants to provide funds for the delegates.

He further said that if Nigerians where going to salvage this country, then her citizens must destroy the politics of SHARE THE MONEY.

Nigerian comedian and content creator, Mr Macaroni took to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to charge Nigerian youths to rally up following the defection of 2023 presidential aspirant, Peter Obi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Mr Macaroni as he is popularly called, Peter Obi’s defection is an opportunity for the populace to rally round  for whatever party the Anambra-state governor chooses. 

Mr Macaroni told the youths that they can change the narrative that claims only PDP and APC can win elections.

Comedian cum actor, Okey Bakassi  took to Instagram on Thursday to hail presidential aspirant, Peter Obi following his defection from the opposition party, PDP.

Naija News reports that the entertainer shared a photo of Peter Obi, hailing him for his courage and principle, adding that he is eagerly awaiting his next move.

He wrote: ‘‘I like the substance based campaign he’s running, I admire his courage and principles….waiting for his next move.”
