Youth Organization Condemns Killings in Plateau State
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) has condemned an alleged ambush by suspected Fulani militias that resulted in the death of Sunday Darian, a middle-aged resident of the Jol community, on the Jol-Sho road in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, issued a statement detailing the incident, which occurred on Friday evening. Darian and a female companion were returning from an event in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area when they were attacked by armed individuals who opened fire on them.
Darian was severely wounded and transported to a hospital in Barkin Ladi, where he was pronounced dead by medical officials on Saturday.
Tengwong characterized the attack as part of a troubling trend of insecurity affecting rural communities in Riyom and the surrounding region. He indicated that the incident underscores ongoing challenges posed by armed groups in the area, despite government and security agency efforts to stabilize the region.
“It is with a heavy heart that we report a fatal attack in Plateau State,” Tengwong stated, emphasizing the need for more robust security measures. He confirmed that the BYM has notified security forces and urged them to intensify their efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack and prevent further violence against innocent civilians.
