Niger State Police Command Arrests Eight for Motorcycle Theft and Fraud
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals suspected of involvement in motorcycle theft, fraud, and other criminal activities throughout the state.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun reported that intelligence gathered on March 6 led authorities to a suspected criminal hideout along Jebba Road in Mokwa. On March 8, at approximately 5:30 PM, a patrol team, under the direction of the Divisional Police Officer of Mokwa, arrested 35-year-old Yahaya Alh. Nma. The team recovered three Bajaj motorcycles and one TVS motorcycle believed to be stolen during the operation.
Further investigation resulted in the arrests of three additional suspects: Abdullahi Usman, 35, Idris Mohammed, 40, and Mohammed Ndako, 27. According to police, the suspects admitted to stealing multiple motorcycles in the Mokwa area.
Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend remaining gang members and recover additional stolen motorcycles.
In unrelated incidents, Abiodun announced the arrest of 42-year-old Yahaya Mohamed from Bayagi, Bida, for impersonating a police officer to defraud phone repair shops. Mohamed allegedly obtained phone screen repairs worth #32,500 in two separate incidents earlier this year without making payment. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional victims.
Additionally, on March 3, police arrested Abubakar Lawal from Dzukogi, Bida, for stealing a goat from a sawmill area. Lawal reportedly intended to sell the animal.
In Suleja, two suspects, Abraham Pius Agada and Moses Ochapa, both from Masaka, Nasarawa State, were arrested on March 6 for using fake debit alerts to fraudulently purchase five 1-liter cans of engine oil valued at approximately #20,000. The suspects confessed to similar fraudulent activities in Kefi, Nasarawa, and Suleja. Police recovered a Toyota Corolla (registration ASH 972 SK) and over a dozen engine oil cans obtained through fraudulent means.
Agada and Ochapa have been charged in court and remanded to a correctional facility as of March 11.
