Kano Police Arrest Notorious Thug, Respond to Mob Violence Incident

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Police Command has arrested Auwalu Ali, also known as Auwalu Dan Baba, a notorious thug, in a targeted operation in the Dorayi area of the Kano metropolis.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest, noting that the 26-year-old suspect was taken into custody on January 31, 2026, by officers from the Dorayi Police Division. The police characterized Ali as a figure known for organizing and leading groups engaged in thuggery, contributing to the victimization of local residents.

In a separate incident in Sharada Quarters, police responded to an emergency report of an armed robbery that escalated into mob violence. According to police, the suspected robber was killed by an angry crowd after he allegedly attacked a woman, leaving her in critical condition.

The victim was transported to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where a police officer provided blood to aid in her recovery.

Kano’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the officers involved, highlighting their professionalism and the generous act of blood donation. He expressed gratitude to local residents for their ongoing support and cooperation with law enforcement.

The police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
