Niger State Police Arrest Man for Attempted Sexual Assault
The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has detained a 40-year-old man, Jafar Mohammed, also known as Danlami, for allegedly attempting to sexually assault three young girls in Kontagora Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun reported that Mohammed, a resident of Sabon-Gari in Kontagora, was arrested on February 11, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m. by officers from the Kontagora Area Command.
Authorities say Mohammed allegedly lured the girls, aged six to seven, to an uncompleted building in the Dadin-Kowa area under the pretense of offering them candy. During the incident, one of the girls raised an alarm, prompting neighbors to intervene and apprehend the suspect.
Following the intervention, Mohammed was turned over to police custody and has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and potential prosecution.
In a separate incident, police recovered an abandoned rifle in Mokwa Local Government Area. According to SP Abiodun, on February 12, 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a report from a local resident who discovered a firearm while clearing bushes near the Government Teachers College in Mokwa.
Police operatives found a rusty Submachine Gun (SMG) rifle, believed to have been left behind by criminals. The firearm is currently undergoing ballistic analysis to identify its origin and any possible links to local criminal activities.
