Oyo State Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists at Polytechnic Ibadan
IBADAN — The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two individuals believed to be involved in cult activities at Polytechnic Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as 31-year-old Lawal Opeyemi, also known as “Aiki,” and 29-year-old Olaniyan Opeyemi, referred to as “Bojan,” are residents of the Apete area in Ibadan. The arrests occurred following a tip-off from a member of the public who reported the presence of a group of young men allegedly preparing for violent confrontations with a rival group on campus.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Olayinka Ayanlade, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the police response. A team led by the Divisional Police Officer, Sango Division, quickly arrived at the scene.
Authorities recovered a locally made double-barrel pistol, two live cartridges, and a bag containing various charms during a search of the suspects. Preliminary investigations suggest that the pair may have been connected to a series of violent clashes at the institution.
Both suspects have reportedly confessed to their affiliation with the Eiye Secret Cult Confraternity and are cooperating with investigators.
The investigation is ongoing, focusing on understanding the context of the gathering and identifying additional members of the suspected group. Upon completion of the investigation, the police plan to charge the suspects in court.
