Lagos Police Arrest Two Suspected Armed Robbers, Seize Firearms

LAGOS, Nigeria — The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of two men linked to armed robbery and the seizure of firearms during intelligence-led operations in the Ajegunle and Ojo areas.

In a statement released Wednesday, Public Relations Officer Abibola Adebis confirmed that the first suspect, 27-year-old Waheed Orelope, was apprehended in Ajegunle after police received credible reports regarding a group of individuals using commercial motorcycles to rob unsuspecting victims.

The Command Tactical Team, known as Thunder Blast, was deployed in response to the intelligence, leading to Orelope’s arrest. Officers recovered a locally fabricated pistol along with two live cartridges from the suspect during the investigation.

In a separate operation, police received information about criminal activity under the Iyana Iba Under Bridge in Ojo, where suspected hoodlums were threatening commuters and residents. The Ojo Police Division’s Surveillance Team responded promptly, resulting in the arrest of 29-year-old Wasiu Shonibare. He was found in possession of a locally made pistol.

Both suspects are currently being held in police custody while investigations are ongoing to assess their involvement and identify any additional members of their criminal network. The police have committed to providing updates as the inquiry progresses.
