Police arrests two suspected gunrunners in Kaduna

Operatives from 47 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Zaria, Kaduna State, have arrested two suspected gunrunners during a routine patrol along the Zaria-Jos Road in the state.

 

Police authorities said the operatives acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of illegal arms within the state, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

 

 

Confirming the arrest to newsmen, the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Munsir Hassan, in a statement released on Friday, December 6, identified the suspects as 40-year-old Zubairu Musa, and Nasiru Saidu, 17, both natives of Kankara local government area of Katsina State.

 

ASP Hassan said the suspects were found in possession of a bag containing eight locally made pump-action guns, one locally made pistol and sixty-five live cartridges.

 

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in the illegal trafficking of firearms, adding that they are currently cooperating with the police to aid in the apprehension of their accomplices and to uncover the full extent of the gunrunning network within the state.

 

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Abdullahi has commended the officers for their swift response and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

 

 

CP Abdullahi further urged the citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police.
