Police declare businessman wanted over two brutal murders in Lagos

Lagos Police Seek Suspect in Double Homicide Case
LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Ahmed Akanbi, a 38-year-old businessman, wanted in connection with the alleged murders of two individuals in the Eti Osa Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh announced the warrant for Akanbi’s arrest during a press briefing on Thursday at the police headquarters in Ikeja. This development follows the arrest of two suspects, Safiu Fatai, 40, and Yusuf Ismaila, also known as Bariga, who were detained on January 24 and February 6, respectively.
Both suspects have confessed to their roles in the fatalities of Sheriff Salami Ishola, 37, and Prince Ademola Akinloye, 38. Ishola was killed on April 18, 2023, in Moba Town, while Akinloye was shot dead on August 26, 2024, along Chevron Road in Ajiran.
Jimoh detailed that Ishola was ambushed by the suspects, along with two accomplices, identified as Soji Mascot and Kenny. Armed with a locally made pistol, an axe, and machetes, the group allegedly dragged Ishola into an abandoned building, where he was restrained and shot multiple times.
Fatai, currently in police custody, reportedly admitted to restraining Ishola while others executed the shooting. The same group allegedly used a similar approach to kill Akinloye, the son of the Ojomu of Ajiran Land, Oba Adetunji Akinloye, on the morning of August 26.
According to police reports, the suspects claimed they were following instructions from Akanbi, who allegedly hired them to carry out the attacks for a total of N2 million, with each principal actor receiving N500,000 soon after the first murder.
Authorities have linked Akanbi, along with Mascot, Kenny, and another individual identified as Bode, to the crimes based on their confessions and other evidence.
Akanbi, the Chief Executive Officer of HAMTAJAK & HALROMALK, is reported to have lived at Victoria Bay, Royal Pine Estate, Orchid Road, Ikota, Lekki. The police have formally declared him wanted and encourage anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the command headquarters. Police assured that such information will remain confidential.
