Police prosecutes Hon. Alex Ikwechegh for assaulting Bolt driver

The Nigerian Police Force arraigned a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, in court after he was filmed assaulting a bolt driver at his Abuja residence. 

 

The lawmaker, who is representing Aba North and South federal constituency of Abia State, appeared before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Kuje today, October 30.

 

He was prosecuted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit. 

 

Ikwechegh pleaded not guilty to the charges of abuse of office, assault, and threat to life.

The presiding judge, his Worship Abubakar Umar Sai’id, granted Ikwechegh bail in the sum of N500,000.

 

The case has been adjourned to November 8.

Police Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this on X, writing: “RULE OF LAW: POLICE PROSECUTES HON ALEXANDER IKWEGH FOR ASSAULT.. Details soon.”

Recall that Hon. Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh was filmed berating a bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, for refusing to leave his car to deliver a package to him in his house. 

Ikwechegh slapped the bolt driver multiple times in the video and threatened to make him disappear. 

Following widespread outrage, Ikwechegh has tendered a public apology.
