Police Recover Firearms Following Motorcycle Accident in Niger State

Niger State police have recovered three AK-47 rifles and six magazines after a motorcycle accident involving two suspected arms couriers. The incident occurred on the Boyi Sarki–Toll Gate axis around 9:50 PM on February 17.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, reported on Wednesday via social media platform X that police stationed at Gawu Babangida had received a distress call regarding the accident involving two unidentified men traveling on a motorcycle from the Tafa area of Kaduna State toward Abuja.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers, accompanied by local civilians, conducted a search of a sack belonging to the motorcycle riders. This search yielded three rifles and six magazines.

According to the report, one of the suspects died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. Following the discovery of the weapons, civilians at the scene attacked the second suspect, who later succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

The recovered weapons included rifles with breach numbers 23130, 1963xx7075, and 0514 33504. Three of the magazines were fully loaded with 30 rounds each, one magazine contained 14 rounds, and the remaining two were empty.

The remains of both deceased suspects were transported to Umar Musa Yar’Adua General Hospital in Sabon Wuse. Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
