Police reinforce security after Lakurawa bandits kill 33 in Kebbi

Kebbi State Police Enhance Security Following Deadly Bandit Attack

Kebbi State Police Command has increased security measures in communities impacted by a recent attack attributed to suspected Lakurawa bandits in Arewa Local Government Area.

The announcement was made on Friday by the command’s spokesman, Bashir Usman. He detailed that the violent episode occurred on Wednesday, when heavily armed individuals, believed to be Lakurawa bandits, entered the district with the apparent intention of rustling cattle, resulting in the deaths of 33 individuals.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the assailants may have crossed into Kebbi from Gudu Local Government Area in neighboring Sokoto State. Usman reported that residents of Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago banded together to respond to the invasion, leading to a confrontation that ultimately cost numerous lives.

In the wake of the tragedy, the police have collaborated with military and other security agencies to deploy additional personnel and resources to the affected areas. Ongoing patrols aim to restore normalcy and prevent subsequent attacks.

The police command expressed condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Arewa community. Usman encouraged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through established security channels, advising against direct confrontation with armed criminals.

“Targeted operations are in progress to locate and detain the perpetrators,” Usman stated, adding that efforts are underway to enhance early warning systems in vulnerable communities throughout the state.
