Akwa Ibom Police Rescue Elderly Man from Fraud Syndicate
UYO, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command announced on Wednesday the rescue of an 81-year-old man from a suspected fraud syndicate operating in Uyo and surrounding areas.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, provided details in a statement to reporters. He noted that three individuals were arrested during an operation conducted on Tuesday in response to a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
According to John, the police were alerted to the activities of the suspects, who reportedly utilized tricycles to mislead victims. “On Feb. 3, at approximately 3:30 p.m., acting on credible intelligence, we successfully dismantled a suspected fraud syndicate in Uyo,” he said.
The police spokesperson explained that the suspects allegedly lured victims using an operational tricycle, subsequently employing deceptive tactics to rob them of their money and valuables. “Acting swiftly on the information, our operatives arrested three suspects,” John added.
In addition to the arrests, the police recovered the operational tricycle, which bears the registration number UFG-886-QA. The suspects have reportedly confessed to their involvement, admitting to defrauding several individuals in the area.
John confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying additional victims to obtain their statements and to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
