Oyo State Police Rescues Four Abducted Passengers

IBADAN, Nigeria — The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the rescue of four passengers who were kidnapped by suspected gunmen along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning when armed men emerged from a nearby forest and blocked the highway, intercepting a commercial vehicle traveling from Igbeti to Kishi. The perpetrators forcibly took the four passengers into the bush.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that upon receiving the report, Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna ordered an immediate rescue operation. This involved deploying officers from neighboring divisions as well as specialized tactical units.

“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that four passengers abducted in the early hours of March 5, 2026, along the Igbeti–Kishi Road have been successfully rescued following a swift and coordinated security response,” Ayanlade said.

Following the directive, a joint security team, which included police operatives, members of the Amotekun Corps, and personnel from Operation Burst, began a thorough search of the surrounding forests.

The operation, which lasted several hours, pressured the abductors to abandon their captives and flee. The four victims were rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families.

Ayanlade added that security personnel are continuing their search in an effort to apprehend the fleeing suspects. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist law enforcement in locating those responsible for the attack.
