UYO, Nigeria — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully rescued a man who was kidnapped from a supermarket on Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
The incident occurred at a supermarket in Obotim Village, located in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. John reported that armed assailants invaded the store, abducting the victim and transporting him to an undisclosed location.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly accessed the victim’s bank account and withdrew 1.9 million naira, while demanding a ransom of 30 million naira from his family.
“Through effective inter-unit collaboration, intelligence gathering, and strategic asset deployment, the victim was rescued unharmed within 24 hours of the incident,” John stated.
The police spokesperson emphasized that the swift operation reflects the command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding kidnapping and violent crime in the state.
The rescued individual was subsequently taken to a medical facility for evaluation and confirmed to be in stable condition. The police have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the crime. The Command reiterated its dedication to combatting crime throughout Akwa Ibom State.
