Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have rescued two robbery suspects from a mob in Gauraka, Tafa Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, said the arrested suspects and some hoodlums blocked the highway along Abuja-Kaduna road and snatched motorcycles from riders.
Residents of the area caught the suspects and almost lynched them.
“On 29/12/2024 at about 0548am, information was received that some hoodlums were on the highway along Abuja-Kaduna road around Chachi community via Gauraka, who drove in a Mercedes Benz vehicle with Reg No RSH 365 HX, blocking and snatching motorcycles from riders,” the statement read.
“The Police patrol teams of Tafa Div and Gauraka were mobilised to the area and two suspects were arrested with the said vehicle with the help of the public, who are; Yau Alidu 45yrs of Rogo, Kano State and Basiru Dauda 33yrs of Sabon-Gari, Kaduna State.
“They were injured by the people and rescued by the Police.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to having committed the offence and mentioned one Ibrahim as their member who escaped.
“Two motorcycles were recovered, the victims were identified, and they were traveling to Katsina State.
“They stated that the suspects robbed them of seventy thousand naira and the two motorcycles.
“The suspects will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.”
