Police warn applicants against bribery during recruitment screening exercise

Police Warn Applicants Against Bribery and Misconduct During Screening in Osun State

OSOGBO, Nigeria — Applicants qualified for screening with the Nigeria Police have received a stern reminder to uphold discipline and refrain from bribery throughout the process. The advice was communicated by Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, during a briefing at the Police Command headquarters on Monday.

Ademola Adebayo, Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, conveyed Gotan’s message to the successful candidates. He commended their nomination and queried applicants on their discipline during the screening.

“Your nomination is commendable. If you do not succeed, accept the outcome with grace. If you do succeed, congratulations on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police,” Adebayo stated.

The commissioner urged candidates to maintain proper conduct, indicating that screening officials would monitor behavior closely.

He cautioned against desperation, particularly any intent to influence the process with bribery or other forms of inducements. “Do not give money or offer sexual favors. If you are not selected, do not complain, as it may lead to complications,” Adebayo warned.

Funmi Akinyose, a Team Leader from the Police Service Commission for Osun State, emphasized the need for applicants to present all required documentation for verification. She encouraged candidates to have their certificates organized and readily available to ensure a smoother screening process.

“We need copies of your certificates. To make the process seamless, ensure you have all your credentials in order,” Akinyose advised.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Yusuf Adeyemi, head of the screening team, reiterated the importance of a transparent recruitment process and cautioned against attempts to lobby or influence outcomes. “This is a free exercise. Do not risk trouble by trying to bribe officials. Anyone caught attempting to influence the process will face severe consequences,” Adeyemi stated.

He also urged candidates to avoid distractions, advising them to turn off their phones during the screening. Female applicants were instructed to remove earrings as part of the exercise’s protocol.
