This year, the entertainment industry proved that fame and fortune don’t shield anyone from misunderstandings, clashes, or full-blown public feuds.
From subtle social media shade to explosive interviews and cryptic diss tracks, some of the biggest names surprised us by publicizing their grievances.
Here are the top 5 celebrity beefs of this year.
1. Burna Boy and Speed Darlington
Perhaps one of the most unprecedented beefs we witnessed this year was between Afrobeats singer Burna Boy and social media personality Speed Darlington.
It was a crazy moment when the headlines first revealed that the latter was arrested by the former…Big “Huh?” moment.
It all began when American superstar Diddy got arrested for sex trafficking and other crimes and 1000 bottles of baby oil were found in his raided homes.
Speed Darlington then picked a beef with Burna Boy and trolled him online because of his Grammy award, asserting that Burna Boy’s Grammy win was affiliated with Diddy.
He didn’t stop there; he also asked Burna, “How many bottles of Baby oil did Diddy use?”.
Burna Boy stayed silent and then had him arrested for defamation.
2. Falz and VDM
Another unexpected beef this year was between rapper Falz and social media personality VeryDarkMan and it all started with a voice note.
Yes, a voice note, released by VDM where Bobrisky alleged that some unnamed EFCC officers collected ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky also alleged that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and his son assisted in getting the charges dropped and keeping him out of prison.
Falz subsequently gave VDM 24 hours to delete the defamatory post and VDM refused. It went completely downhill from there.
On different occasions, VDM called Falz a Daddy’s boy, and his followers began doing the same at some point. Messy.
3. Jaywon and Ayra Starr
Even though the beef between Jaywon and Ayra Starr seems very one-sided, it is still an unexpected beef.
Jaywon has been peeved since their now-infamous photo went viral. He later accused the songstress and her management of chasing clout with the pic.
In November 2024, during an interview with News Central, Jaywon blamed Ayra Starr and her management for not calling the trolls to order back then.
“The Ayra Starr situation is unfortunate. We are not cool. People don’t get it. What would make me, Jaywon, want to take a picture with Ayra Starr?” he said.
4. The Psquare brothers
The reason the Psquare brothers are on this list is because we thought they had finally made up after their long-standing beef, and unfortunately that was not the case.
Instead, their downward-spiralling story took a different turn this year when Paul Okoye revealed that he had parted ways with his twin brother Peter.
The announcement came after Peter said he was no longer interested in being a part of the group.
Paul also shared that Peter petitioned him and their older brother Jude Okoye to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The two have been at loggerheads since, further splitting the fanbase into two.
4) Davido and Wizkid
Many people find it odd that the latest feud between Nigerian musicians Davido and Wizkid is still going strong, especially considering that they made up during Wizkid’s 2017 concert nearly ten years ago.
Wizkid asked Davido to come onstage with him to sing his smash song “Fia” during that event. The rumours of their antagonism at the time were successfully put to rest by this gesture.
In April 2024, the two were once more engaged in a duel started by Wizkid when he shared a contentious video on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter.
In the video, a sobbing Davido was seen begging with Bonita Maria, an American model, for unspecified reasons, on his knees.
It’s been downhill from there as Wizkid has repeatedly taken jabs at Davido via X on different occasions.
5) VDM and Bobrisky
Verydarkman and Bobrisky may never have been the best of friends from the start, but nobody could have envisaged how far this rivalry would go this year.
At this point, we can say that VDM is probably Bobrisky’s biggest opp.
