‘Purge yourself of anti-Atiku sentiments’ - Dele Momodu tells Bode George

Momodu Urges Bode George to Halt Anti-Atiku Sentiments
Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress, has called on Chief Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to abandon what he termed anti-Atiku sentiments. Momodu asserted that Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President, has a valid right to pursue his presidential ambitions.
Momodu’s remarks came in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday in response to a video interview in which George criticized Atiku for allegedly prioritizing his personal aspirations over the party’s interests.
Both Atiku and George share a history within the PDP, although Atiku has since transitioned to the ADC.
During his interview, conducted in Yoruba, George openly questioned Atiku’s continued pursuit of the presidency. “There’s someone who has been bragging so much, and whom I pity so much,” George stated. He expressed concern that, despite the efforts of elder statesmen to broker peace, Atiku persists in his ambitions. “Is his ambition greater than that of Nigeria’s?” George asked.
When pressed on whether he was referring to Nyesom Wike, George clarified, “I am referring to Atiku Abubakar. He is insisting on being ADC’s flag-bearer for the presidential elections. It’s his problem; let him go ahead. Isn’t it why he left the PDP in the first place?”
In response to George’s criticisms, Momodu urged the PDP leader to reconsider his stance and allow Atiku to pursue his political goals without animosity. “Baba mi Sir, you know I love and respect you a lot, kindly purge yourself of anti-Atiku sentiments,” Momodu wrote. He emphasized, “It is his right to contest, while it is your right not to support him. Atiku has never bragged to anyone about his political dreams.”
Momodu indicated that Atiku’s departure from the PDP was a result of internal conflicts, pointing to Wike’s influence on party dynamics. “Atiku knew the PDP was going to collapse under the suffocating grip of Nyesom Wike, who you once supported before joining the Goodluck Jonathan re-election movement,” he said.
He further argued that Atiku is well-positioned to understand the political landscape, stressing that active democratic participation should not be constrained. “Democracy is about the freedom to choose and the liberty to reject at the polls,” Momodu concluded. “Please, let Atiku breathe, sir.”
