Qatar Affirms Stability Amid Regional Tensions
DOHA, QATAR — Qatar’s Interior Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad stated that the country remains stable despite ongoing Iranian drone and missile strikes in the region amid the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
In an interview with Qatar Television on Friday, Sheikh Khalifa emphasized that the Qatari government has developed a comprehensive plan to address the possibility of further Iranian attacks. “The security situation in the country is stable, and we will not hesitate to take any measure that ensures the stability of our nation,” he affirmed.
He noted that Qatar’s early warning system had successfully responded to reports of missile fragments landing at over 600 locations throughout the nation. Sheikh Khalifa also assured that Qatar possesses sufficient water supplies for several months and has food reserves capable of meeting the nation’s needs for up to 18 months.
His comments come as a series of Iranian strikes have targeted various countries in the Gulf region since the beginning of the US-Israeli offensive against Iran on February 28. While Iran claims it aims to strike US and Israeli military assets, many of its attacks have affected civilian infrastructure, including critical oil and gas facilities.
These developments have resulted in a slowdown of regional energy production, exacerbated by Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil transport. This situation has raised concerns regarding the broader implications of the conflict on the global economy.
Earlier this week, the United Nations Security Council condemned the Iranian strikes against Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Qatar’s ambassador to the UN, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, labeled the attacks as “a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter.” She stated that these actions severely undermine the foundations of the bilateral relations between the involved nations.
As tensions escalate, Qatar continues to emphasize its readiness to maintain stability within its borders and the region.
