Quality of Nollywood movies has dropped – Actor Francis Odega

Nigerian Actor Francis Odega Critiques Decline in Nollywood Movie Quality
Veteran Nigerian actor Francis Odega has indicated a significant decline in the quality of Nollywood films over recent years. During a recent episode of the podcast “Where Is The Lie,” Odega expressed his concerns, noting that the industry is not what it once was.
Odega reflected on a time when he and his contemporaries produced memorable films, contrasting that era with the current landscape, which he described as dominated by subpar productions. “Back then, one script would yield one unforgettable movie. Now, a single script can generate seven bad movies, and that’s not right,” he stated.
Odega, who identifies as one of Nollywood’s pioneers, highlighted his long tenure in the industry, which dates back over 30 years. He emphasized the early days of Nollywood, noting that it initially emerged as a phenomenon before he and others founded what is now known as the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria. “When we started, Nollywood was just taking shape. Our organization was originally called the Nigerian Actors Guild before we rebranded,” he explained.
His comments underscore a broader conversation about the challenges facing Nollywood and its evolution over the decades.
