Ramadan: Kebbi govt reduces working hours for civil servants

Kebbi State Government Reduces Working Hours for Ramadan

The Kebbi State Government has announced a two-hour reduction in official working hours for civil servants during the Ramadan fasting period.

This decision follows the announcement of Ramadan’s commencement by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.

In a statement released Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi, Hafsat Tune, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Establishment, Pension, and Training, indicated that the adjustment was made to alleviate the challenges faced by fasting employees.

Under the revised schedule, official working hours will be from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the workday will conclude at 12:00 p.m. throughout the fasting month.

Tune emphasized that civil servants are required to adhere strictly to this new schedule, with normal hours expected to resume after Ramadan.

The reduction in working hours is consistent with practices observed in many predominantly Muslim states across northern Nigeria, where official hours are often shortened to accommodate the needs of fasting individuals.
