Reforms have rescued Nigeria – Abiodun commends Tinubu as Ogun APC endorses President’s second term

Governor Abiodun Commends President Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
Abeokuta, Ogun State — On Wednesday, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun praised the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as crucial for Nigeria’s recovery from economic decline and necessary for future growth.
Abiodun’s comments came during the Expanded Stakeholders Strategic Meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta, where party leaders endorsed Tinubu for another term in office.
The governor acknowledged the courage Tinubu displayed in addressing longstanding economic issues, particularly the removal of fuel and foreign exchange subsidies. “At a time when the economy had severely nosedived, our president rose with courage and conviction to take hard but necessary decisions aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable development,” Abiodun stated.
Referencing the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Abiodun noted that Tinubu’s reforms are seen as essential for Nigeria’s economic recovery. “Many thought fuel subsidy was the worst burden, but the foreign exchange subsidy system was the bigger monster,” he said. He emphasized that Tinubu’s decision to eliminate both subsidies on May 29 marked the start of genuine reforms.
Abiodun indicated that the effects of these reforms are already visible, with improved fuel availability, declining inflation, and a stabilizing naira. He reported that foreign reserves are currently around $45 billion, highlighting a resurgence in investor confidence.
He also pointed out significant infrastructure projects initiated under Tinubu’s leadership, including a 700-kilometre coastal highway and a 1,000-kilometre superhighway. “Foreign flights are now full of investors coming into the country,” Abiodun remarked, noting the economic activity in Ogun State, where numerous factories have emerged.
Discussing party unity, Abiodun expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the strategy meeting, describing it as a testament to the APC’s strength and cohesion. He called for continued solidarity among party leaders, stating, “A united APC is an unbeatable APC.”
The governor announced plans to construct a new APC secretariat in the state within six months. He also reflected on his administration’s achievements, which include the delivery of over 7,000 housing units and multiple primary healthcare centers.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited recently commenced commercial oil drilling in Ogun Waterside. Our GDP now stands at ₦17 trillion. These are not accidental achievements; they are the result of careful planning and vision,” he said, adding that Ogun State is now frequently compared to Lagos in terms of economic progress.
Abiodun also assured a smooth and transparent transition for his successor at the end of his tenure and expressed gratitude for Tinubu’s support for Ogun State. He disclosed plans to establish the largest dairy and cattle ranch in Ipokia Local Government Area with federal assistance.
Describing the endorsement of Tinubu as strategic and warranted, Abiodun stated that extending the president’s mandate would help solidify ongoing reforms through 2031.
The meeting was attended by a diverse group of political figures, including current and former senators, members of the House of Representatives, and various APC leaders from across the state.
