Revenue collector crushed to death in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for a truck driver who fled after allegedly running over a revenue collector on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred near New Garage, inbound Lagos, involving a containerized truck with registration number FST 887 XD.

According to Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the victim was struck fatally while attempting to collect dues from the truck driver. The driver and his conductor fled the scene immediately after the accident.

“Personnel from LASTMA quickly responded to manage the situation and ensure traffic flow,” Bakare-Oki said. “The victim’s remains were handed over to officers from the Adigboluje Police Division, who are coordinating with the family to handle formalities.”

The victim’s wife reportedly rushed to the scene upon hearing the devastating news. LASTMA officers also removed the truck, which had caused significant traffic congestion, and handed it over to the police for further investigation.

Bakare-Oki expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, emphasizing the importance of holding the fleeing driver accountable. “Transport union leaders must take immediate action against the driver involved,” he urged. The police are continuing their investigation to ensure justice is served.
