Sarz, Ozedikus, DJ Kaywise open up on exploitation by musicians

Nigerian Producers Discuss Alleged Exploitation by Artists
Prominent record producers Sarz, Ozedikus, and DJ Kaywise have raised concerns about the exploitation of producers and DJs by some musicians in Nigeria. Each shared personal experiences during a recent conversation on the Afropolitan podcast.
Sarz initiated the discussion by recounting instances where well-known artists failed to compensate him adequately for his work. “Many popular artists took advantage of me,” he said. “I collaborated on two songs with one major artist, but I was only paid for one. That day, I decided that anyone who doesn’t meet my fee would not work with me, which earned me a notorious reputation.”
In response to a viral clip from Sarz’s interview, Ozedikus revealed he faced a similar situation with an unidentified artist. He stated the musician not only withheld payment but also refused to give him production credit. He tweeted, “After watching Sarz talk about artists taking advantage of him, I remembered producing over 30 songs in two months for someone in 2016/17 without receiving payment. They released one track, and I begged just for a tag on Instagram for ‘exposure,’ which never happened.”
DJ Kaywise also shared his experience, recalling a promise made by rapper Eldee The Don in 2012 to sign him to his record label. Kaywise claimed he created over 1,000 mixtapes for Eldee and his artists but was ultimately never signed. He explained why he chose to remain independent, stating, “After seeing your tweets, I remembered in 2012 when Eldee promised to sign me after I made all those mixtapes. That was the first major industry disappointment I faced, and it’s why I haven’t signed with any label since. Now, I’m proud that my decision to remain independent is beginning to pay off.”
As of now, Eldee The Don has not publicly addressed the allegations made by DJ Kaywise.
