Scotland beat USA to clinch T20 World Cup place

Scotland secured their spot in the Women’s T20 World Cup with a convincing 41-run victory over the United States during the final Super Six qualification match held in Nepal. The match was crucial as only the top four teams would qualify for the tournament, and Scotland successfully finished third alongside Bangladesh, Ireland, and the Netherlands, all set to compete in England starting June 12.

In the match, Scotland’s opener Darcey Carter led from the front, scoring 52 runs, while Ailsa Lister and Priyanaz Chatterji contributed with 43 and 39 runs, respectively. The team ended their innings at 178-8. Despite a commendable effort from Tara Norris, who took three wickets for the US—including the significant dismissal of Scottish captain Kathryn Bryce, who was dismissed for a rare golden duck—Scotland’s batting performance proved dominant.

In response, the US struggled to maintain pace with the required run rate. Scotland’s Bryce rebounded from her initial disappointment by taking an early wicket, dismissing opener Disha Dhingra in the first over. She continued to exert pressure by bowling out Isani Vaghela, while Chatterji and Chloe Abel each claimed two wickets, contributing to the US’s turmoil.

The US’s innings faltered as they lost wickets at regular intervals. After Ella Claridge was dismissed for 35 in the 10th over, leaving the score at 67-3, hopes of a comeback dwindled. Scotland maintained tight control and wrapped up the game with six balls to spare, sealing their victory and passage to the World Cup.

Overall, Scotland’s balanced performance with both bat and ball showcased their strength in the qualification stage, affirming their readiness to compete in the T20 World Cup.
