Student at Yobe State School Dies After Alleged Bullying Incident
POTISKUM, Yobe State — A senior student at the Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) in Potiskum has died following an alleged bullying incident involving fellow students, local authorities report.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday when the student was attacked by classmates under circumstances that remain unclear. He was laid to rest the same day in his hometown of Gadaka, located in the Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesman for the Yobe State Police, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation has been initiated to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. “Yes, we are aware of the incident. Investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain what led to the death of the student,” Abdulkarim said.
A teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity, indicated that some students suspected to be involved have been turned over to the police for further investigation.
Prof. Abba Idriss Adam, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Yobe State, was contacted for comment but had not returned calls by the time this report was filed.
