Katsina State Security Forces Rescue 21 Kidnapped Individuals

KATSINA, Nigeria — The Katsina State Government announced that security forces have rescued 21 individuals who were abducted during an operation in the Dargaza Hills, located in the Danmusa Local Government Area. Four suspects were also apprehended during the operation.

The rescue was executed by the Department of State Services (DSS) in partnership with the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, and Community Watch Corps. In a statement released on Saturday, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs Nasir Mua’zu highlighted that the operation was intelligence-led, leading to the successful rescue of the victims.

The rescued group includes 16 women, two men, and three infants, who were kidnapped from Gidan Sarkin Bayero Village in the Musawa Local Government Area and other nearby locations. Mua’zu noted that 20 of the victims are Christians and two are Muslims, emphasizing that these attacks are indiscriminate.

“The operation targeted the hideout of a known bandit leader, Kamilu Chiroma, also known as Buzaru, in the Dargaza Hills,” Mua’zu said. He praised the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations and the collaboration between security agencies.

The commissioner assured the community that the detained suspects would face legal consequences once investigations are completed. He also reiterated Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s commitment to combating banditry and restoring peace to Katsina State. Mua’zu commended the DSS, army, police, and Community Watch Corps for their professionalism during the operation.
