Senate calls for removal of CAC Registrar-General over repeated snub of lawmakers

Senate Calls for Dismissal of CAC Registrar-General Husaini Magaji
The Senate has taken steps to recommend the removal of Husaini Magaji, the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), due to his repeated failure to respond to summons from the upper chamber.
This decision emerged from a motion introduced by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu during a recent meeting of the Senate Committee on Finance, attended by members of the President’s economic team. Tensions were evident at the start of the session, as lawmakers expressed frustration when Magaji failed to appear for the roll call of agency heads.
Magaji was expected to inform the committee about the commission’s operations. After his absence, Senator Kalu motioned for the Registrar-General’s immediate removal, citing a pattern of disregarding invitations from the finance panel.
“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa,” Kalu remarked.
Additionally, Senator Sani Musa, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, raised ongoing concerns regarding discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue. He noted that Magaji had failed multiple times to clarify these issues to the committee.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole suggested that lawmakers consider suspending discussions on the CAC’s 2026 budget as a further response to the situation.
Following thorough deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion, urging the President to relieve Magaji of his responsibilities.
