Khalid has come out as gay, sharing the news on social media after alleging that he was outed by another artist. The R&B star took to X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night, posting a rainbow flag emoji and writing, “there yall go. next topic please lol.”
The announcement followed a string of events online, including a tweet from another user speculating about his sexuality. In response to a comment that read, “Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!,” Khalid quote-tweeted and confirmed, “I am! And, that’s okay.”
Khalid later elaborated on his post, explaining his perspective on being outed. “I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me. love yall.”
He appeared to be referencing a series of now-deleted posts from fellow singer Hugo D Almonte, who reportedly revealed Khalid’s sexuality without his consent.
Despite the circumstances, Khalid expressed comfort with his identity and emphasized his privacy. “I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business,” he stated, doubling down on his confidence and self-acceptance.
Fans in the comments have largely been supportive, with many pointing to signs from Khalid’s previous work, including his 2022 song Satellite, which some have described as an LGBTQ anthem.
