Sit-at-home: Our people can’t be coerced into abandoning Nnamdi Kanu – IPOB hails ‘total compliance’

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) recently announced that the compliance with their Monday sit-at-home order in the South-East region of Nigeria exemplifies the unwavering support for their leader, Nnamdi Kanu. This sit-at-home initiative was organized in solidarity with the traders of Onitsha Main Market following a closure mandated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo. Despite the market’s reopening after a week, there were minimal trader turnouts, and major roads and businesses remained largely deserted, particularly in the morning, with many schools also closed.

IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming adherence to the directive, indicating that it reflected a strong loyalty and commitment from the Biafran people towards Kanu. He portrayed the day as a demonstration of unity, affirming that the community is resolute in resisting intimidation regarding Kanu’s continued detention. According to Powerful, this collective action showcases that threats and coercion cannot sway the people’s allegiance to their leader. He emphasized that their resolve is a testament to their identity and heritage, highlighting a spirit of freedom among the Biafran populace.

In his statement, Powerful noted that this compliance sends a clear message to both local and international observers: the Biafran people remain determined to advocate for Kanu’s release and justice for their community. He asserted that their love for Kanu represents a source of strength rather than vulnerability, urging that it binds the populace in their quest for autonomy and justice. Furthermore, while IPOB advocates for respect toward governing institutions, they maintain their commitment to resisting any form of oppression or humiliation.

Powerful concluded with a declaration that “Biafraland has spoken,” emphasizing that the international community should take note of the resolve exhibited by the region’s residents. This stance reinforces IPOB’s position that the ongoing illegal detention of Kanu only strengthens their cause and calls for the continued support of the Biafran movement.
