Six Dead, Three Injured in Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway Accident

Ota, Ogun – The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) reported on Tuesday that six individuals lost their lives and three others sustained injuries in a traffic accident involving a truck on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

According to Mr. Salau Hammed, the Ota Divisional Commander of TRACE, the incident occurred around 9:55 a.m. at the Ilo-Awela axis of the Toll Gate area.

Hammed detailed that the accident involved a truck, a tricycle, and nine people. An eyewitness indicated that the truck, travelling from Ilo-Awela towards the Toll Gate, experienced brake failure before colliding with the tricycle, other vehicles, and pedestrians on the road.

The fatalities included five men and one woman. The deceased have been transported to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital, while the injured individuals are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital.

Hammed stated that efforts are underway to clear the wreckage from the highway, which includes the truck, affected vehicles, and the tricycle. TRACE personnel, along with other agencies, are on-site to manage the aftermath of the incident.

He urged motorists to exercise caution by adhering to speed limits and ensuring their vehicles are in proper working condition before driving.
