New Inspector-General of Police Supports Establishment of State Police
Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has expressed his support for the creation of state police forces in Nigeria. His remarks came during his swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Disu discussed the implementation of state police and emphasized the need for collaboration. He stated that the police must be involved in the decision-making process regarding this initiative.
“From the angle of the Nigerian Police, we want to ensure that our voices are heard and that we are part of the discussions,” Disu said. He underscored the police’s readiness to contribute positively to the establishment of state police, noting that this would enhance public safety and security.
President Bola Tinubu has previously urged Nigerian senators to expedite legislation aimed at formalizing the establishment of state police across the country.
