Benue State Speaker Urges Community Unity to Tackle Security and Development Challenges

DAUDU, Benue State — Berger Alfred Emberga, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, emphasized the importance of unity among community members to effectively address ongoing security and development challenges. His remarks came during the 2026 World Isherev Day celebration held at RCM Primary School in Daudu, Guma Local Government Area.

Emberga highlighted that the Isherev community faces significant issues, including security threats and slow infrastructure development. He called for a collective approach among all residents, urging them to set aside political, religious, and social differences.

A statement from Emberga’s Chief Press Secretary, Zape Michael Upaa, indicated that the Speaker regarded the event as crucial for both preserving cultural heritage and reflecting on pressing community issues. He encouraged local residents to support initiatives focused on community development, peace, and the empowerment of youth and women.

“The strength of unity is essential for overcoming insecurity, advancing development, and safeguarding our collective interests,” Emberga said.

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Chenge, reiterated the administration’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure. He announced that construction of the NASME–Yogbo–Udei Road would soon begin, a strategic project aimed at improving connectivity and stimulating economic activity in the region.

Phil Tor Tikor, President General of the Isherev People’s Assembly, addressed concerns regarding insecurity due to attacks by armed herders and the sluggish pace of economic growth, despite the area’s rich natural resources.
