Former Nigerian Player, Austine Okocha says Super Eagles winger Ademolà Lookman’s uniqueness ensured he won the African Player Of The Year.
The Atalanta star won the African player of the year Award last week Monday, after defeating the likes of PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Brighton’s Simon Adingra, and Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The 27-year-old Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian footballer who has won the prestigious award.
In an interview with Soccer TV’s YouTube channel as per the Sun, Okocha, a one time BBC African player of the year, stated that Lookman’s award is a reward for dedication and hard labour.
“The CAF Award is not just about how well you play on the pitch,” said the former Super Eagles captain.
“Your attitude on the pitch, your reactions to fellow players, and your responses to coaches are all tested before we even talk about tactical performances.”
“For Ademola Lookman to be awarded African Best Player of the Year, it simply means he has been examined on all these criteria and passed.
