Former Manhattan prosecutor Mark Pomerantz complied with Jim Jordan’s subpoena in the Alvin Bragg investigation but gave Republicans no information.

Pomerantz ripped the investigation in his opening statement:

Pomerantz called Jordan’s investigation cynical histrionics, and said that he is not legally required to play a role in the House Republican political theater. Pomerantz also said that he was asked by DA Alvin Bragg not discuss information about the Trump case, which meant that Republicans had nothing. Pomerantz said that the Trump case is privileged information, and he responded to questions by invoking his Fifth Amendment rights.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) was one of the Judiciary Committee House Republicans who was outraged:

Rep. Issa said, “The witness has not cooperated in any way, shape, or form, has simply appeared and I would characterize as taking the fifth on every single question. He has answered no substantive questions whatsoever.”

Issa added, “I’ve never had a more obstructive and less cooperative witness in my over 20 years in Congress.”

CNN’s Paula Reid described Jim Jordan’s response:

Reid said, “Jim Jordan came out and asked what they were going to do next and he said I’m going to consult with other members, I’m going to talk to lawyers. It was pretty restrained for him.”

It turns out that Jim Jordan and House Republicans don’t have the legal authority to meddle in a local criminal investigation. Jordan is trying to investigate DA Bragg to help Donald Trump who is currently faces 34 counts of falsification of business records.

Mark Pomerantz did his legal duty and nothing more.

Jim Jordan’s muted reply said it all. House Republicans can seethe, but there is nothing that they can do to get answers from anyone in Manhattan about the criminal investigation into Trump.

Townhall columnist Kurt Schlichter sat down with The Political Insider’s Brett Smith to discuss the ramifications and recourses that could result from former President Donald Trump’s indictment.

Smith asked whether or not House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy could in fact hold New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg accountable, as he had recently said, for what he considers to be “weaponizing the justice system” to go after the Republican frontrunner in order to derail his third presidential campaign.

McCarthy has also made accusations about federal funds being used.

“What can House Republicans really do to hold Bragg accountable or stop him?” asked Smith.

“Nothing, unless he comes there and lies and then maybe you have perjury that someday a DOJ can try him for in freaking Washington D.C.” remarked Schlichter. “This is why I would, If I was them, hold the hearings outside of Washington D.C. in venues where you can get a really jury down the road as part of our ‘operation payback’.”

Empty Threats?

“I would suggest that what we do is, you know, get the Republicans to change the law and venue that is somebody can get be charged, somebody commits a crime in Washington D.C., can actually be charged in Maryland or Virginia so you don’t have a Washington D.C. jury which will always convict a Republican and never convict a Democrat,” Schlichter continued.

Washington, D.C. is one of the deepest blue areas of the country, voting 93% for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and 93% for Joe Biden in 2020.

Smith asked further whether Schlichter believed whether or not Bragg’s case would collapse before even making it to trial in December.

“The case is going to end when it gets to the U.S. Supreme Court which it will through convoluted means,” replied Schlichter. “Until then, if this was a real case, it would be gone this week based on motion to dismiss. It’s not a real case.”

Schlichter also remarked about the obviously biased nature of the individuals involved in targeting Trump, including the judge who he claims is a partisan donor, whose daughter “works for [Vice President] Kamala Harris.”

Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, has worked for Kamala Harris and Adam Schiff.

“It should be dismissed, so I mean again, not a legal case,” he added.

House Republicans on the Move or Not?

This week, the House Judiciary Committee began to hold hearings in Manhattan over the rampant increase in violent crime in New York City. However, House Democrats are claiming that this is an attempt at subterfuge in order to target Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

Rep. Jerry Nadler, whose district covers Manhattan where the trial will take place, commented, “We’re here today in Lower Manhattan for one reason and one reason only: The chairman is doing the bidding for Donald Trump.”

Rep. Jim Jordan, who is currently the House Judiciary Chair, attempted to call on Bragg to testify before the committee, but Bragg decided to decline making an appearance.

“The House GOP continues to attempt to undermine an active investigation and ongoing New York criminal case with an unprecedented campaign of harassment and intimidation,” later tweeted Bragg.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) wasted taxpayer money by holding a House Judiciary Committee field hearing in Manhattan to attack DA Alvin Bragg, but even conservative media mostly ignored him.

Newsmax showed the opening statements of Jordan and committee ranking member Jerry Nadler before they cut away.

Here is a clip of their coverage of Nadler’s opening statement:

Ron Filipkowski noted:

Throughout the hours-long hearing, my own checks revealed Newsmax showing the hearing on the screen for a moment or two at the top of each hour while they talked over the audio.

Fox News also appeared to have very minimal interest in the hearing. There was no live broadcast on CNN and MSNBC. C-SPAN showed the hearing on its app and website only.

Jordan thought that taking his committee to Manhattan would give him a large national platform to use to smear the motives of DA Alvin Bragg for indicting Trump. Instead, House Judiciary Democrats attended the hearing and undercut Jordan’s dreams of defending Trump by questioning the witnesses on violent crime and gun violence.

It was so bad for the committee Republicans that they were complaining that Democrats were talking too much about gun violence:

Chairman Jordan thought that he was going to use his position to undercut the credibility of Alvin Bragg, but it was House Judiciary Committee Republicans who showed themselves to be lacking any sort of credibility by participating in a hearing that was a dud for Trump.

After House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) tried to pressure C-SPAN into televising his hearing on Alvin Bragg, the network didn’t yield and said that would stream online.

C-SPAN tweeted in response to Jordan and other Republicans demanding that the hearing be televised:

We’ll see if Fox News or Newsmax shows the hearing live, but the whole point of doing the hearing was to generate mainstream media coverage that would be used to smear Alvin Bragg, taint a potential jury pool, and help Trump discredit the case against him.

Jordan, House Republicans, and conservative media have been trying to pressure C-SPAN into being ‘fair’ and televising the hearing.

The lack of C-SPAN television coverage is an indication of the perceived lack of newsworthiness of Jordan’s latest stunt.

There has been a shift in the media culture. Republicans are struggling to adjust their false narratives, conspiracy theories, and talking points into mainstream political dialogue.

Without their talking points being landed and elevated through coverage from respectable mainstream media, Republicans are trapped in their right-wing bubble where they preach to their supporters,

Representative Thomas Massie, the libertarian Republican from Kentucky, is calling on Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to be disbarred and removed from office following the indictment of former President Donald Trump.

Trump is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, low-level felonies in New York State but which carry a potential for a 4-year prison sentence each.

Bragg’s dogged pursuit of Trump comes as he’s made a career of allowing criminals guilty of far more egregious crimes to roam the streets of Manhattan.

Massie, it appears, has seen enough.

“Alvin Bragg should be disbarred and removed from office,” he tweeted. “This is an egregious abuse of the legal system for political purposes and threatens the fabric of our judicial system.”

Should Alvin Bragg Be Disbarred?

Massie doesn’t provide any specific details on why Alvin Bragg should be disbarred and removed from office, though he has defined the charges against Trump as “completely bogus.”

“Supposedly, Trump’s been indicted for failing to properly report hush payments as campaign expenditures,” Massie said.

“That’s completely bogus. In fact, they would have indicted him sooner for a crime of using campaign funds for personal benefit had he reported it as a campaign expenditure!”

It’s not the first time critics have suggested Bragg be disbarred for his actions.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin stated the Manhattan DA “should be disbarred” in part because of the “way he campaigned” and added, “This is crap that a pre-law student shouldn’t even put in front of a damn judge.”

“Donald Trump is a historic figure or they wouldn’t be doing this,” Levin added. “There wouldn’t have been a January 6 committee. There wouldn’t have been a Mueller criminal investigation. There wouldn’t have been two phony impeachments.”

Massie Hammers Squad Member After They Throw Temper Tantrum

Representative Massie made headlines last week when he decided to attempt civilized debate with ‘Squad’ member Jamaal Bowman, who instead insisted on screaming about gun control.

“They’re cowards! They’re all cowards!” Bowman screeched. “They won’t do anything to save the lives of our children at all. Cowards!”

Massie happened upon the scene and interjected with facts, pointing to the effectiveness of armed security or teachers in our schools.

“You know, there’s never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry,” Massie pointed out.

Bowman showed up at protests outside the courthouse where Trump was set to appear for his arraignment and couldn’t turn off the crazy.

Massie also finds a way to be a thorn in the side of ‘Ukraine First’ Republicans, last year demanding a halt to all taxpayer funds being funneled to the country until “a thorough audit of the $60 billion that Joe Biden and Congress have already sent there” had been conducted.

The GOP-led House Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, on which Massie sits, has announced they will investigate Bragg’s potential use of federal funds.

The Manhattan DA’s office insists that no federal grant money was used toward expenses in the Trump investigation, though GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy disputes Bragg’s claims.

Rep. Jim Jordan quickly changed the subject to conspiracy theories when asked if he will subpoena Alvin Bragg.

Video:

Jordan said on Fox’s Sunday Morning Futures when asked if he would subpoena Alvin Bragg:

Everything’s on the table, Maria we’re going to talk with the other chairman and look at the response we just got his letter back we’re reviewing that but we think that this is here’s I think maybe the most important thing we think this is bigger this involves all of us I don’t think it’s an accident that the same week we learn that the IRS knocked on Matt Taibbi’s door while he’s testifying in congress that same week as when we learn a district attorney is going to a left-wing district attorney is Soros back district attorney is going to go after the former President Of The United States.

I mean that is the scary thing that they paid a foreigner, think about this they paid a foreigner to put together a fake dossier to spy on President Trump’s campaign the FTC sends letters to Twitter demanding who are the journalists you’re talking to and then of course when Matt Taibbi’s testifying the IRS is knocking on his door and now An indictment of a former president the guy who happens to be leading in every single poll this is about all of us this Is about going out after anyone who opposes the left’s agenda the establishment’s agenda and that’s maybe the most scary thing of all.

Jordan was trying to scare Trump supporters into coming out to protest. Trump’s defenders are still trying to make his supporters feel connected to the indictment and like the indictment puts them in jeopardy. Rep. Jordan even used the word scary.

Jim Jordan knows that Bragg will never have to testify before the House, and there is nothing that the House can do to make him testify because House Republicans have no oversight jurisdiction over a local prosecutor.

Jordan doesn’t want to talk about something that even he probably knows is never going to happen, so he threw a bunch of conspiracy theories out there and tried to escalate the fear because Trump supporters don’t protest the myth of the former president’s political might will be shattered.

Former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg has dumped the attorneys that the former president was paying for. If he struck a deal with the DA, Trump would have a new big problem.

Video of MSBNC reporting that Weisselberg is changing lawyers:

The nation has been down this road so many times with Trump legal news that it is wise to use a degree of caution, but Weisellberg is the big fish in terms of witnesses who could implicate Trump in very serious potential crimes.

Bragg had left the door open to filing more charges against the former Trump CFO, and maybe after doing months in prison, Weisselberg has had enough. Weisselberg is 75 years old but also Trump’s primary firewall. As long as Trump’s former right-hand man stays quiet, prosecutors will have difficulty proving the potentially more severe financial crimes of Donald Trump.

No one knows what any of this definitively means at this time, but Bragg may have made more progress with Weisselberg than other prosecutors.

Historically speaking, when witnesses drop their Trump paid-for lawyers, it is usually a bad sign for the failed former president. If Weisselberg cooperates, it will mean that Trump’s legal peril has gone from bad to absolute disaster.

By Dr. Derek Ellerman

Oh, dear reader, how many times now?

How many times have you seen fake news accounts or DNC paid shills on social media proclaiming that “the walls are closing in” on Trump?

How many times has Trump been right on the verge of “going to jail” for this or that imagined offense?

Now, I don’t want to make a prediction, but it looks like yet another media-hyped crisis could be on the ropes.

Politico reports that the grand jury in Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump is taking a break. For a month.

I’m not a lawyer, but doesn’t that seem a little strange given all the prognostications about Trump finally going to jail?

RELATED: Trump Reveals Exactly Why the Deep State is Desperate to Stop Him

Month’s Worth of Vacation?

It gets better. You see, there’s nothing wrong with the case – Trump is most assuredly guilty and going to jail – this month-long hiatus was just a “pre-planned” hiatus!

If you’re in the market for “pre-planned month-long hiatuses” or bridges in Vietnam, well step right on up. I have both for sale!

An unnamed source told Politico, “The following two weeks are set to be a hiatus that was scheduled when the grand jury was first convened in January.”

Maybe, maybe not. Sure.

Now again, I’m no lawyer and I don’t play one on TV. But I’m guessing there might be sliiiiiightly more to this story.

Isn’t there always?

Whoops!

As The Political Insider’s MVP Rusty Weiss noted last week, it appears to anyone with a working brain that the “case” against Trump hit two significant snags last week.

For starters, a letter surfaced showing that Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen, complained that Trump specifically did not pay him. Kinda hard to pay hush money without… well, paying it. Right?

Here’s the letter:

Right there in black and white: “Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, [Stormy Daniels] and neither reimbursed Mr. Cohen for the payment directly or indirectly.”

Seems plain as day, doesn’t it?

But that’s not all.

Stormy Daniels also released an official statement in 2018 expressly saying that the so-called affair itself never even happened, forget about payments.

Look for yourself:

In the letter, Clifford/Daniels explicitly says she is not denying the affair because of any hush money payments, either.

OK. So let’s look at the score here.

  • Cohen says he paid, and was not ever paid by Trump or any of his business entities
  • Daniels says the affair never even happened at all
  • The next week, the grand jury takes a “pre-planned” month off

The truth is, it takes a lawyer to combine these two facts into a legal spectacle to “get Trump.” Any honest person looks at all this and sees it for exactly what it is.

On the other hand, I could be totally wrong and off-base. It’s never happened before, but much like the mystical Trump imprisonment, it could theoretically happen.

Now, what’s it going to take to get you into this nice Vietnamese bridge today?

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) falsely claimed that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is hiding evidence that would clear Trump and called for the DA’s arrest.

Greene tweeted:

The former party of law and order and the rule of law now wants to arrest prosecutors for doing their jobs. Greene’s call for Bragg to arrested echoes the behavior of anti-democratic regimes around the world.

Subscribe To Our Newsletter:

It is easy to laugh off Rep. Greene, but it is important to realize that what she is suggesting would destroy democracy in the United States. Her ideas are dangerous to American liberty and freedom.

The Stormy Daniels case has been investigated for years. There is no missing evidence that would clear Trump, because going back to the original investigation, Donald Trump was unindicted co-conspirator Individual 1.

Trump is still trying to blame Michael Cohen for his crimes. There is no magic evidence that will clear Trump, because the former president is most likely guilty.

Trump’s supporters demonstrated on 1/6 that they are willing to use violence and even kill to keep him in power, so locking up prosecutors for doing their jobs is another page out of the authoritarian playbook.

Greene’s tweet is an indication that there is nothing that House Republicans can do to stop the potential indictment of Trump, and they are helpless to stop justice from coming.
