But what if one of the commonly used items in your shower routine is doing more harm than good?

The loofah, a popular bathing tool, might not be as beneficial as you think. This article explores three reasons you should consider eliminating loofahs from your bathing routine.

Contrary to what you might expect, loofahs, with their numerous nooks and crannies, are ideal breeding grounds for bacteria. Every time you use a loofah, it collects dead skin cells and the soap residue from your body. These moist, warm, and organic conditions create the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive.

Studies have found that loofahs can host various types of bacteria, including potentially harmful ones. When you use a contaminated loofah, you unwittingly transfer these bacteria back onto your skin, which can lead to skin problems and infections.

While the idea of exfoliating with a loofah may seem appealing, it can actually be harsh on your skin. The natural fibres of a loofah can be abrasive, especially when combined with vigorous scrubbing.

This abrasiveness can lead to micro-tears in your skin, which may cause irritation, redness, and dryness. Over time, this can compromise the skin’s protective barrier, making it more susceptible to environmental stressors and skin conditions. For individuals with sensitive or easily irritated skin, loofahs can exacerbate these problems.

Despite popular belief, loofahs may not be as effective in cleansing and exfoliating as other alternatives. The texture of a loofah can be uneven, making it difficult to achieve consistent exfoliation. In some cases, loofahs might not effectively remove dead skin cells, which can lead to clogged pores and a dull complexion.

Additionally, loofahs have a limited lifespan. They tend to break down and deteriorate over time, requiring frequent replacement. This results in the generation of more plastic waste as loofahs are often made from synthetic materials.

While loofahs may seem like an essential part of your bathing routine, they come with certain downsides that are often overlooked.

The potential for bacterial growth, skin irritation, and their limited effectiveness should give you pause.

Consider alternatives like washcloths or your hands, which can be gentler on your skin and produce less waste or develop better ways to clean and use your loofahs.

Your shower should be a moment of rejuvenation, not a breeding ground for bacteria or a source of skin issues.

Woman reveals she is allergic to water and cannot drink, bathe, sweat, or cry without reacting

A 25-year-old woman has opened up about her illness in hopes of helping others with chronic conditions.

Tessa Hansen-Smith has the rare condition of Aquagenic Urticaria, meaning she’s allergic to water.

She developed the “water allergy” when she was around eight years old, and it has worsened over the years.

Tessa said: “I would come out of showers and have huge welts on my skin, and my scalp would be bleeding after showering. So, the first things we kind of did was, ‘Okay, let’s take away your shampoos, take away your conditioner, take away any soaps you’re using.'”

As a little girl, she played, swam, took baths and drank lots of water like any other kid until she began developing mysterious symptoms.

Now, water causes itching, rashes and hives on her skin. If she drinks it, she can feel a burning sensation in her throat and body.

So, she drinks mostly milk because the water content is buffered by proteins, fats and sugars.

Years of testing by many specialists finally led to a conclusion by her closest doctor, her mother.

“I feel a little guilty as a mom for not having seen when she would get out of the shower that she had hives and figuring it out way earlier that it was a water issue,” explained Dr. Karen Hansen-Smith, Tessa’s mom.

As a family medicine physician, Tessa’s mom has seen many rare illnesses, but watching her own daughter suffer is even more difficult.

“It is heartbreaking. I still have my daughter, she’s 25. She’s not living the life she wanted to live,” said Karen.

Tessa credits her positive perspective to the support of family and friends.

“That seriously makes all the difference, having people around you that do believe you and are helpful.”

Tess takes walks but must avoid sweating too much, so she spends much of her days indoors, working on art, playing with her cats and reading.

“In the summertime, when people are going to the beach, people are having pool parties and trying to escape the heat the best they can, those are things I can’t participate in and can’t enjoy, so it can be really isolating,” Tessa said.

While avoiding water, her health took a drastic turn.

Tessa spent 12 days at Community Regional Medical Center after becoming so dehydrated that she developed ischemic colitis, in which blood flow is blocked to the colon, resulting in serious illness.

She is still recovering with physical therapy.

After that setback, Tessa is pouring out her story to help others with rare and often misunderstood conditions.

She’s part of a book entitled “Chronically Empowered” and even appeared on the Dr. Oz show.

“I always think about how much easier and how much better life would have been if this didn’t happen to me, but because I know I can’t really change that, I just focus on how I can help other people going through similar things,” Tessa explained.

Tessa’s story has gone viral on social media, and she uses her Instagram page Living Waterless to connect with others with rare conditions, offering understanding and support.

“Having been able to meet so many people and getting to talk to so many people from so many different walks of life really does give me a lot of joy and gives me a sense of purpose with the condition,” Tessa said.

She hopes to continue pursuing a nursing degree and says as a nurse, she would approach patients with compassion and, most of all, belief in their symptoms.

“I hope that I can go back to school again, I hope that I can get a job again, I hope that I can find a sense of normalcy in life again,” Tessa explained.

Tessa has an older sister who does not have a water allergy.

It’s estimated only 100 to 250 people have Aquagenic Urticaria worldwide.

There is no cure for it, and Tessa and her parents meet with doctors in the Valley and in San Francisco to seek advancing allergy treatments.

For now, she takes antihistamines to alleviate the rashes, hives and itching from contact with water.

Thou shall not do family planning, give head, use condom or bathe with your wife - Benue security expert lists 10 commandments for men in his community

Abuja-based public affairs analyst, Jonathan Onoja Isaac, has reminded men of his community, Otukpa, the headquarters of Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, of the laid down morals and customs of their land.

Otukpa people are known for their tradition, one of which is the worship of alekwu (god of justice) which means the spirit of the ancestors.

It is said that the alekwu has the power to punish anyone who goes contrary to the customs of the land, including abortion and extra-marital affairs. Men who pay abortion bills are also punished by alekwu.

Taking to his Facebook page on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, Mr. Jonathan revealed that two Otukpa sons have died prematurely while others were brought home for cleansing over the weekend.

He then listed 10 commandments the sons of Otukpa should abide by. Read his post below:

Attention: All Otukpa Sons Across the globe. HOW the mighties are falling….Between Traditions And Civilisations, which is the safest?

It has come to our notice, how some of our great men and youths from the otukpa kingdom are falling prey of the oza room set up by Delilahs in the name of civilization in marriages and friendships.

It’s so touching how these men are dying premature because of an enjoyment that they never lasted for an hour before cuming home in an ambulance. Due to these development, I wish to read out the riot act again to avoid I ”am not awia”

Don’t be deceived, two (2) are already down, and two others were brought home for cleansing over the weekend, but like you know, once a dog has licked an oil from the plate, no matter what you do, he will just be lapping the mouth and wangling the tongue.

Here are the 10 Commandments.

10.Thou shall not bring any foreign deities home, in fact you will not even cross the ikpewu annya with it sef.

Keep these rules and continue to enjoy the fruit of thy labour. We are aware of the fact that some of your wives and assistant wives are since complaining of how boring you are, but you can buy them fish and new clothes instead to keep them happy than giving head. It is better you are boring than to be buried. Thanks.
