Buffalo supermarket shooter sentenced to life in prison for massacre (video)

Payton Gendron, the teen who opened fire at Tops Friendly Markets on May 14, 2022, killing 10 people, has been sentenced to life in jail.

He was handed 10 life sentences ? one for each victim.

There was chaos at the sentencing when a man in the audience charged at Payton Gendron.

An impassioned victim impact statement from the sister of one of the victims of the Buffalo supermarket shooting was interrupted when an unknown person lunged at the teenage shooter, disrupting the courtroom.

The man was quickly restrained and the proceeding resumed after about 10 minutes, with more emotional outpouring from people who lost loved ones or were themselves wounded in the attack.

?You killed my sister,? Barbara Mapps told Payton Gendron, 19, at the sentencing at Erie County Court on Wednesday morning, Feb. 15.

Judge Susan Eagan said the sentences would run concurrently, according to News4Buffalo.

?You will never see the light of day as a free man ever again,? she told Gendron.

Mapps? sister, Katherine Massey 72, was one of the 10 people killed during Gendron?s racism-fueled rampage at Tops Friendly Markets on May 14, 2022.

Most of the victims, including Massey, were black.

Gendron pleaded guilty in November last year to several murder and hate-motivated terror charges.

?Kat would do anything for anyone at any time,? Mapps told Gendron, her voice trembling with emotion.

Addressing the killer from behind a podium, Mapps frequently gestured toward Gendron as she raised her voice.

Gendron, whose hatred was fueled by racist conspiracy theories he encountered online, cried during some of the testimony and apologized to victims and their families in a brief statement.

Some angrily condemned him; others quoted from the Bible or said they were praying for him. Several pointed out that he deliberately attacked a Black community far from his nearly all-white hometown.

“You’ve been brainwashed,” Wayne Jones Sr., the only child of victim Celestine Chaney, said as sobs rose from the audience. “You don’t even know Black people that much to hate them. You learned this on the internet, and it was a big mistake.”

“I hope you find it in your heart to apologize to these people, man. You did wrong for no reason,” Jones said.

“There can be no mercy for you, no understanding, no second chances,” Judge Susan Eagan said as she sentenced him.

Kano State Govt shuts supermarket over refusal to accept old naira notes

Kano State Government, through the Consumer Protection Council, has shut a popular supermarket, Wellcare, over refusal to accept old Naira notes.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, February 12, the acting chairman of the council, Baffa Babba Danagundi, said the supermarket was shut shortly after Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje gave the order.

According to Danagundi, legal action will be taken against the supermarket.

He said the order of the closure follows the refusal of WellCare Supermarket to accept the old naira notes from customers as against the instruction of the state government.

He warned other marketers in Kano to be aware that the state government has not banned the use of old Naira notes, therefore, any shop caught not receiving the old notes will be dealt with decisively.

Shortly after the closure, Wellcare Alliance Limited wrote a letter of apology to the government, seeking an immediate intervention to re-open the supermarket.

“Due to the federal government policy on the New Naira Notes, we gave wrong instructions to our staff that from the 10th day of February, 2023, only the new approved Naira Notes are to be in circulation,? the letter reads.

?On an expansive investigation with our bankers, they declined to receive old Naira Notes on our behalf, unknown to all parties that the state has a policy that the old notes are to be in circulation,”

?On this basis, we sincerely apologise for our actions and deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused the state. We humbly plead that our business should be re-opened for deserving members of the public as we undertake to receive old notenotes as valid tender to when the state issues and otherwise directive. Please do accept our regards and sincere apologies.?

The Kano State Government had last Thursday February 9, filed a suit against the federal government over the naira redesign.

In a Suit Number: SC/CS/200/2023, the Kano State Attorney General, through his Counsel, Sunusi Musa (SAN) asked the Apex court to declare that the President of Nigeria, cannot unilaterally direct the Central Bank of Nigeria to recall the new N200, N500 and N500 old Bank notes without recourse to the Federal Executive Council and National Economic Council, respectively.

Kano state Government prayed a mandatory order seeking for a reversal of the Federal Government policy to recall the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes from circulation, for affecting the economic wellbeing of over 20 million of its citizens.

The Applicant also sought mandatory order, compelling the Federal Government to reverse the Naira redesign policy for alleged failure to comply with 1999 (as amended) constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Lagos Govt seals supermarket over sale of expired products

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has sealed Valuepoint Supermarket over the continuous display and sale of expired products.

This is in furtherance of the T.H.E.M.E.S agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the drive to ensure consumer protection and safety from the purchase of expired and unwholesome products.

Speaking on the enforcement operation, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, Esq explained that the aim of the exercise is to ensure that stores and supermarkets, who have at various times flagrantly disobeyed the lawful directive of the agency against the sale and display of expired products, are forced to comply with the law.

“Despite several public enlightenment campaigns and warnings by LASCOPA, Store managers still sell expired and hazardous products which are dangerous to human health in contravention of the State Government’s directives on the sale of unwholesome goods,” he said.

He reiterated that the State Government has zero tolerance for the sale of hazardous and expired products and will not fail to initiate litigation against any store or supermarket found culpable.

Solebo assured that the present administration will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring the protection and safety of consumers in the State. Just as LASCOPA will continue to promote consumers’ rights.

Recall that last week, a LASCOPA monitoring team led by the General Manager of the Agency, Afolabi Solebo Esq., sealed Cynosure Supermarket in Ajao Estate area of Lagos State over the display of expired products on their shelves.

The team had, similarly, issued a Non-Compliance Notice to the Valuepoint Supermarket located in the Estate for the same offense.

Lagos State Govt seals supermarket over display of expired products on shelves

The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has sealed Cynosure Associate Super Stores, located at 18, Lateef Salami Street, Ajao Estate, over the display of expired products on the shelves, while another Supermarket, Valuepoint Supermarket, situated on the same street, was similarly issued a non-compliance order over the display of expired products.

Speaking on the exercise, the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo Esq., said the Monitoring and Enforcement team of the Agency had visited the Cynosure supermarket on Monday, 12th September, 2022, during a routine monitoring exercise where some items displayed were noticed to have expired.

He said the team, therefore, directed the management of the supermarket to remove the identified products from the shelf, but the outlet failed to comply with the directive after a revisit by the gang a few days later.

This led to the issuance of an invitation letter to the management of Cynosure and the eventual sealing of the supermarket on Friday, October 14, 2022, due to failure to comply.

Similarly, he said LASCOPA Monitoring and Enforcement team had also issued a non-compliance order to Valuepoint Supermarket, situated on the same street, over the display of expired products.

“The exercise is to serve as a deterrent to other supermarkets and sales outlets that are in the habit of trampling on the rights of consumers, some of whom are often ignorant or in a hurry to check the expiration date of products that they want to buy”, he added.

While charging consumers not to hesitate to report any supermarket or shops within the state where such products are sold, Solebo enjoined residents to always ensure to check the information contained on the label of items about to be purchased.

The General Manager reiterated that LASCOPA services are free and enjoined all members of the public to forward their complaints on any product or services to the agency at 2b, Soji Adepegba Close, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja or send them to the Agency’s e-mail addresses: [email protected] and [email protected] for a prompt response.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blames Buffalo supermarket shooting on Biden and mental illness, ignores race conspiracy theory?

Tucker Carlson, the controversial FOX news TV host has blamed the Buffalo, New York shooting on mental illness of the shooter and US president, Joe Biden.

On May 14, 2022, a mass shooting occurred in Buffalo at a Tops Friendly Markets store, a supermarket in the Kingsley neighborhood on the eastern side of the city.

Ten people were killed, and three others were injured; 11 of the victims were black. The shooter,  livestreamed the attack on Twitch.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blames Buffalo supermarket shooting on Biden and mental illness, ignores race conspiracy theory?

The accused, identified as 18-year-old Payton S. Gendron of Conklin, New York, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder.

In an online manifesto, Gendron claimed the right-wing conspiracy theory that white people are being taken over by minorities. But Carlson, has now come out to blame plenty of other factors for the weekend shooting that left 10 people dead.

In the past Carlson has repeatedly theorized that minorities are trying to take over the US, and called the shooter a mentally sick person who shouldn’t blame his shooting ok racism.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson blames Buffalo supermarket shooting on Biden and mental illness, ignores race conspiracy theory?

“What is hate speech?” Carlson said on Fox News.

“Well, it’s speech that our leaders hate. So because a mentally ill teenager murdered strangers, you cannot be allowed to express your political views out loud. That’s what they’re telling you.”

“Gendron’s screed, which laid out careful plans to kill as many Black people as possible, as well as Jewish people in New Jersey, isn’t actually a racist manifesto, Carlson argued.

“It’s definitely racist, bitterly so. Gendron reduces people to their skin color and that’s the essence of racism and it’s immoral. But what he wrote does not add up to a manifesto. It is not a blueprint for a new extremist political movement, much less the inspiration for racist revolution. Anyone who claims that it is is lying or hasn’t read it.”

Instead, he said, the 180-page document is “a rambling pastiche of slogans and Internet memes, some of which flatly contradict one another.”

“The document is not recognizably left-wing or right-wing; it’s not really political at all.

“The document is crazy. It’s a product of a diseased mind.” Carlson said.

“He writes like the mental patient he is — disjointed, irrational, paranoid. Now, that’s true, not that it makes the atrocities he committed easier to bear. If your daughter was murdered Saturday in Buffalo, you wouldn’t care why the killer did it or who he voted for.”

Then, Carlson blamed the Democrats, including President Joe Biden, for a “coordinated campaign to blame those murders on their political opponents.”

The Fox News host also blamed the spread of white identity politics on race politics, comparing it to the Rwandan genocide.

“All race politics is bad, no matter what flavor it is. It’s poison. It subsumes the individual into the group. It dehumanizes people,” he said. “It elevates appearance over initiative and decency, and all the other God-given qualities that make people unique yet morally equal to each other.”

The solution, he said, is to move toward a “colorblind meritocracy” where we ignore races.
