Nicole Williams Amarteifio CEO An African Film City

Media entrepreneur, political consultant, and author, Adebola Williams on Sunday, August 6, 2023 ended his whirlwind US 4-cities tour with conversations on issues relating to diaspora Africans in New York. The event, which was anchored by emerging markets business executive, Adeola Bakre, also featured a panel session and the launch of his book titled, African Power Girls.

The New York fireside conversations had in attendance notable members of the diaspora community in America. It follows his inspiring engagement with like-minded personalities in three other major US cities including Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; and Los Angeles, California.

In his remarks, Adebola said Africans in the diaspora and their Black American counterparts “need to start thinking about your role in building the nations that you are originally from because it is the only place where you are first”.

Earlier during his engagement in Houston, Adebola spoke on the importance of diaspora Africans in the overall development of the continent. “Africa is not complete if it doesn’t include and acknowledge the efforts, contributions, and achievements of those (of you) in the diaspora,” he said. “The future of Africa depends on its people in the diaspora because of the skills, knowledge, education, experiences, and networks that you have been able to garner, and which many people back home may not have access to.

“We should be mindful to be strategic in our philanthropy. Support education on the continent by building schools, paying school fees, donating books, giving scholarships, and much more. This way we’re not giving for the sake of it, but we are making a difference in the way that it truly moves the needle and guarantees change,” he added.

Adebola took his inspirational ‘girl-child empowerment’ message to Atlanta and Los Angeles where he told his audience that young girls do not need the permission of the society to become.

According to him: “I wrote the African Power Girls book to let young girls across the world to know that – before the world tells them that they can’t dream, they can’t hope, they can’t aspire – that women like them have gone through a lot, and in the process built amazing things and achieved incredible feats. I want them to know that they do not need anyone’s permission to become.

Adebola’s well-attended tour was supported by several notable international brands including Leatherback, a financial technology company facilitating safe, quick, and efficient cross-border payments.

“At Leatherback, we recognize the importance of diaspora Africans in the overall development of the continent, as well as the role that we all must play,” said Toyeeb Ibrahim, CEO of Leatherback, while speaking about the company’s support. “This is in line with our mission to create a global community in which financial transaction restrictions are removed.

“We currently empower Africans in the diaspora by providing solutions designed to address their cross-border payment needs, allowing them to send and receive money in 15 currencies with ease across 21 countries on the go using our mobile app, without physically visiting a bank,” he concluded.

Adebola Williams’ US tour aims to strengthen the connection between diaspora Africans and their continent. It highlights their critical role in facilitating the accelerated socio-economic development of the continent.

A statement released by NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, says the two suspects were intercepted at the Screening Point 1, Terminal 1 of the international wing of the Lagos airport on Tuesday 1st August 2023 while attempting to board an Ethiopian airline flight to India. Though their travel documents show consistency in their names and depict them as a couple, an NDLEA officer however decided to subject them to body scan.

The scan confirmed they both ingested drugs as a result of which they were later placed on excretion observation at the Agency’s facility.

‘’While their travel documents identify the man as Ilonzeh Kingsley Onyebuchi and the lady to be Ilonzeh Roseline Nonyelum, preliminary investigation revealed that the intending passengers were not a couple but obtained the travel documents in the same surname to beat security checks at the airport. The lady later gave her real name as Ngogbike Nkechi.

During her interview, she confessed that she was recruited in her church in Aba, Abia state where she lives. The suspect, Ilonzeh Roseline Nonyelum (aka Ngogbike Nkechi) stated further that she is a divorcee, and that Kingsley with whom she was travelling is not her husband but connected only for the purpose of the illicit drug business trip.

She revealed that her arranged husband, Kingsley brought the pellets of cocaine to her in her room to ingest in the hotel where they were both lodged in separate rooms the previous day Monday 31st July. ‘’ the statement read

Babafemi added that after their arrest, a thorough search conducted on her led to the discovery of a big size wrap of cocaine that weighed 100 grams she inserted into her private part. She confessed that she was promised Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) upon successful delivery of the drug in India.

‘’In his own statement, Kingsley who was into clothing business in Onitsha, Anambra state, claimed he was promised Two Thousand Dollars ($2,000) after a successful delivery of the drug in India. A further search of the Agency’s crime data base revealed that Kingsley also obtained his travel documents with fake identity for the trip.” the statement read

Babafemi added that it was established that Kingsley was arrested by NDLEA operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on March 19 2022, for ingesting 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.243kgs upon his arrival from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on board an Ethiopian airline flight. He said the suspect’s travel documents then contained his real name: Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian. He said the suspect was arraigned in court and granted bail and was still on bail when he was intercepted this time around for drug trafficking.

‘’After his arrest at the Abuja airport on 19th March 2022 along with another suspect, Iro Elvis Uche who also ingested 65 wraps of cocaine with a gross weight of 1.376kgs, Uwaezuoke was subsequently arraigned before Justice Zainab Abubakar of the Federal High Court Abuja with charge number: FHC/ABJ/CR/438/2022. He was eventually granted bail by the court pending the conclusion of his trial. He is still on the court bail when he was arrested at the Lagos airport for a similar offence on Tuesday 1st August. While Ilonzeh Kingsley Onyebuchi (aka Uwaezuoke Ikenna Christian) excreted a total of 82 wraps of cocaine with a gross weight of 1.822kgs in five excretions, Ilonzeh Roseline Nonyelum (aka Ngogbike Nkechi) egested 101 wraps in four excretions with a bid size wrap of the substance recovered from her private part, all weighing 1.50kgs.”

Protecting your hair by wearing a wrap, a scarf, or a hat is probably the best and simplest way to do it. We tend to focus on the damage from products and forget that dust, smoke, and gaseous pollutants take a toll on our hair. Moreover, protective gear doesn’t always agree with the hairstyle. So let’s look at some hair protective measures we can use against these pollutants.

Here’s how to prevent these effects and maintain healthy tresses

Contrary to what you may think, daily hair washing doesn’t harm your hair quality or quantity. Pollutants can build up and make a nest in your hair. Because most pollutants sit on the cuticle, it is easy to wash off. Daily shampooing and washing are also a must to keep your scalp free from itchiness and dandruff. Choose a mild shampoo and washing regimen.

Pollutants take a toll on your hair so straightening, blow-drying, and curling can aggravate hair damage. These routines make the hair more prone to damage, brittleness, and split ends.

Oiling and deep conditioning are a must for healthy hair. Schedule spa treatments for your hair. Consider them vacations for your hair. They help repair the damage whilst rehydrating the hair. Oiling and deep conditioning your hair can bring back the lost moisture.

Hair serums are the best for your cuticles which suffer pollution the most. One to two drops of serum on wet hair is enough for medium-length hair. If you have oily hair, make sure you only apply the serum on the ends and not the scalp.
