Pandemonium Erupts at Port Harcourt Market After Trader Killed
PORT HARCOURT, Rivers State — Chaos erupted Saturday at the Fruit Market in Rumuokwurusi following the fatal stabbing of a trader identified as Higightor Wenem, who hailed from Mbagel Village in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement to reporters. According to Iringe-Koko, the confrontation began when Wenem requested a wheelbarrow pusher, identified as Zakara Afaaruwu, to move his wheelbarrow, which was obstructing Wenem’s goods.
The situation escalated into a heated argument, culminating in Afaaruwu allegedly stabbing Wenem with a dagger. After the attack, bystanders rushed the trader to the Military Hospital for emergency medical care, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities have taken Afaaruwu into custody, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
