[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad/prioradrelationship] Hmm. Okay. I think this new launch from The Body Shop is going to be very much a marmite product – it’s not raspberry as you might expect it to be.

If you’re expecting a sweet and juicy scent, that’s not it. This version of raspberry is tart and green enriched with raspberry seed oil and/or fruit extracts. There’s a little waft of a sweet raspberry there but it’s very much overtaken by something more acidic, particularly with the body scrub (coming up).

The texture of the Whipped Body Butter is delicious – moussy, light and instantly softening. There’s a back-aroma of shea butter and only very lightly raspberry-ish. Because of the texture, I was expecting it to smell like a Petit Filous which it certainly doesn’t but on the plus, you won’t spend the day smelling of fromage frais.  If you like a whippy body creme over a somewhat heavier body butter, this is for you. It’s not quite so thin as the Body Yoghurts – more of a half way house between the two.

I’m conflicted. One the one hand, this is fun and interesting, but on the other, there’s yet to be a scenario where being covered head to foot in jam feels like it might be comfortable. The Body Shop Fresh Raspberry Exfoliating Body Scrub is exactly like raspberry jam in appearance (although very, very far away in taste and I know that because curiosity got the better of me) but not sticky in texture. Raspberry seeds, pulp and walnut shells (not whole!) are suspended in a gel.

For me, it’s just a bit too close to jam in looks and a bit too far away from jam in scent. It’s a similar sensation to very high cocoa solid chocolate – you think, ooh, chocolate, how delicious and then you taste it and it’s just so far from your every day experience of chocolate that your senses have a bit of a collapse. It’s marmite, I’m telling you! Anyway, if you feel curious, you can find the whole collection, which includes a shower gel and a body mist HERE, non affiliate HERE. The scrub is £15 and the Whipped Body Butter is £16.
