Three ex-governors set up technical committee to reposition Abia

Abia State Inaugurates Technical Committee for Development Blueprint
A technical committee has been inaugurated in Abia State, comprising legislators and appointees from the administrations of Orji Uzor Kalu, Theodore Orji, and Okezie Ikpeazu. The committee will draft a comprehensive development blueprint aimed at repositioning the state.
The ceremony took place on Saturday in Umuahia, with Anthony Agbazuere, the former Chief of Staff to Okezie Ikpeazu, appointed as the committee’s chair. The committee was formed from a larger group established during a meeting on January 9, 2026, at the residence of former governor Theodore Orji.
Kalu, who officiated the inauguration, emphasized that the committee was created with the endorsement of all three former governors—himself, Theodore Orji, and Ikpeazu—as well as former appointees and legislators. He expressed a commitment to elevate the state’s progress and cautioned against undermining the achievements of previous leaders.
Once completed, the development blueprint will be reviewed by the former governors and presented to the prospective 2027 gubernatorial candidate to support the state’s advancement.
Kalu also addressed the recent Electoral Act, which seeks to minimize political party switching among Nigerian politicians, suggesting it is intended to enhance the electoral system’s integrity.
Responding to threats from members of the Abia Labour Party regarding his Senate re-election bid, Kalu dismissed the concerns as unfounded, asserting that his success will depend solely on the support of the Abia North electorate.
