Tinubu seeks Senate confirmation of Oyedele, Abe as minister, NUPRC chairman

President Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for New Finance Minister and NUPRC Chairman
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance. This nomination follows the departure of Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite from the position.
In addition, the President is seeking the Senate’s approval for former senator Magnus Abe as the new chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC). This appointment comes in the wake of Gbenga Komolafe’s resignation from the role.
These requests were announced during a Senate plenary session, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the letters from President Tinubu.
The President emphasized that the Senate’s confirmation of Oyedele is part of broader adjustments within the Federal Executive Council. Oyedele, a 50-year-old economist and public policy expert from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. He played a pivotal role in efforts to transform Nigeria’s tax system.
Furthermore, the Senate is also expected to consider the confirmations of Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former Trade Union Congress chairman in Kaduna State, and Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the now-defunct Department of Petroleum Resources. Both have been nominated as non-executive commissioners.
