Tinubu to visit Southsouth, Southeast May – Presidency

President Tinubu to Visit South-South and South-East on May 12

The Presidency announced that President Bola Tinubu will visit the South-South and South-East regions of Nigeria on May 12, 2026.

Minister of Works David Umahi made the announcement during a site inspection of the Aba-Port Harcourt Motorway in Abia State and the Eleme section of the East-West road in Rivers State. He indicated that the President’s visit would coincide with the inauguration of several projects expected to be completed in April.

Umahi emphasized that the federal government has intensified efforts on major highway projects throughout the South-South region, with multiple corridors set for commissioning during Tinubu’s upcoming visit.

Among the key projects is the dualization of the 43-kilometer Aba-Port Harcourt highway, a vital economic route connecting Abia and Rivers States. Officials reported that the project, managed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is currently 90% complete.

The former Governor of Ebonyi State acknowledged that the project had faced delays for years due to funding issues until the current administration stepped in. He stated that the contractor has been instructed to focus resources on completing one side of the highway to expedite its delivery, assuring that outstanding payments, amounting to billions, would be settled in the coming weeks.

“They are committed to the project for twelve months post-completion,” Umahi said. “Should it fail, responsibility lies with them. However, I am satisfied with their progress and expect that the project will be ready for the President’s commissioning on May 12.”
