Transfer: Martin Odegaard, eight players to leave Arsenal this summer

Arsenal Considers Player Sales to Comply with Financial Fair Play Regulations

LONDON – Martin Ødegaard, the captain of Arsenal, may be among the club’s senior players put up for sale this summer as the team seeks to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, according to multiple reports.

After a busy transfer window that saw Arsenal invest over £268 million on new signings, the club is now evaluating its expenditures. Reports indicate that at least one first-team player will need to be sold to avoid breaching FFP rules.

The Telegraph states that internal discussions at the Emirates Stadium have emphasized the necessity of such a move. Ødegaard, although still under contract for two more years, may face a potential departure should a substantial offer materialize.

In addition to the captain, academy graduates Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly could also leave the club. Nwaneri’s lack of playing time led to a loan agreement with Marseille, while Lewis-Skelly has fallen in the pecking order under manager Mikel Arteta.

Experienced players, including Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Leandro Trossard, are also at risk of departing. Martinelli, who was signed in 2019 for £7 million, along with White, is viewed as a potential source of significant profit.

Havertz, who has two years remaining on his contract, is being considered for a new deal, while Jesus and Trossard are approaching the final year of their contracts, prompting discussions about their futures.

Arsenal bolstered its squad with the summer signings of Viktor Gyökeres, Martin Zubimendi, Eberechi Eze, and Piero Hincapie. Despite an increase in revenue to £690.3 million, the club faces mounting wage expenses, necessitating additional sales to maintain financial stability.
