Troops Arrest High-Profile Suspected Criminal in Benue State
Operation WHIRL STROKE forces apprehended a prominent suspected criminal during an intelligence-led operation in Agasha Village, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The arrest followed reports of an attack on a local resident.
Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday. He indicated that the operation commenced on March 13, 2026, after authorities received credible information regarding an assault on Mr. Shaapera Seeta Michael in Agasha Village.
In response, troops from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Intervention Battalion XI were deployed to the area to locate the individual responsible for the attack. Upon their arrival, they cordoned off the vicinity to prevent the suspect’s escape and initiated a targeted search.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Mr. Suurnen David Akum from Agasha Village, was apprehended during the operation. A locally fabricated rifle was also recovered from him.
Lt. Zubairu noted that Akum is currently under investigation and will be handed over to appropriate authorities for further action.
Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, praised the troops for their professionalism and effective tactics, which contributed to the successful arrest. He urged the team to sustain their operational momentum and remain vigilant in their efforts to disrupt criminal activities in the region.
