Troops foil coordinated Boko Haram, ISWAP attacks in Borno communities

Boko Haram and ISWAP Attacks Repelled by Joint Task Force Troops in Borno State

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North East, under Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled coordinated attacks by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in multiple communities in Borno State.

The assaults targeted military positions in Jakana, Mainok, Konduga, and Marte, located in the Konduga and Marte Local Government Areas. The attacks occurred between 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and 3:00 a.m. on Friday, as detailed in a statement released by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI.

In response to the attacks, troops, along with reinforcements from Sectors 1 and 2, engaged the insurgents, forcing them to retreat after intense combat. The military reported that several insurgents, including key commanders, were killed during the confrontation.

Additionally, air strikes conducted by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI targeted fleeing fighters and their suspected hideouts, contributing to the diminishing strength of the attackers.

However, the military acknowledged that some soldiers lost their lives during the clashes, including an officer leading the troop during the operation. While some structures in the affected areas were damaged, all military bases have remained secure.

Ground troops are currently conducting follow-up operations in the region to recover weapons and equipment.

This escalation in violence follows an attack less than two days prior on the Ngoshe community in the Gwoza Local Government Area, which resulted in casualties and displaced residents.
