Troops overrun terror camp in Kogi, rescue 14 victims

Nigerian Army Rescues 14 Kidnapped Victims in Kogi State

Lokoja, Nigeria — Troops from the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have successfully rescued 14 individuals who had been kidnapped in Kogi State, following sustained military operations against terrorist groups in forested areas near Lokoja.

According to a credible military source who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Abuja, the rescue operation was executed after an assault on a camp occupied by terrorists in the Adonkolo/Kakanda Forest. The troops engaged in a firefight with the militants, ultimately overruning the camp and forcing the assailants to flee.

During the operation, the troops recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, military and police uniforms, as well as documents, including a foreign passport. This seizure is expected to further weaken the operational capacity of the terrorist group, the source indicated.

Among those rescued was a serving soldier who had been abducted while traveling from Abeokuta to Zaria. Medical teams were on hand to stabilize all rescued individuals.

In a subsequent operation, the troops ambushed a fleeing terrorist who abandoned a motorcycle while evading capture; the vehicle was seized for intelligence purposes. The military also responded to a kidnapping incident along the Okene-Onyukoko road, successfully rescuing seven more victims. Search-and-rescue operations continue for any remaining captives.

The military source reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to pursue aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring security in Kogi State and surrounding regions.
