Troops repel ISWAP attack in Konduga as heavy gunfire rocks Borno community

Troops Engage Suspected ISWAP Fighters in Konduga, Borno State

KONDUGA, Borno State — Troops participating in Operation Hadin Kai clashed with suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) Thursday night following an attempted attack on the Konduga Local Government Area.

According to security sources, the insurgents attempted to infiltrate the area around 11:15 p.m., which prompted a rapid response from military personnel stationed in the vicinity. Residents reported hearing sustained gunfire, with one local describing the situation as a fierce exchange between soldiers and the attackers.

“There have been heavy sounds of gunshots as the soldiers engage the terrorists. We are hearing the sounds around Dalori,” a witness stated.

Konduga, located approximately 35 kilometers from Maiduguri, is a crucial frontline community in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP, primarily due to its close proximity to the Sambisa Forest.

As of this report, the firefight between troops and insurgents was still ongoing, with security forces continuing their efforts to repel the attackers.
